Moms Who Make It Work

My favorite part of this website in which I feature different moms troughout the community who share insight into how they “make it work”.  It’s comforting to know there are others out there in the same situation, dealing with the same working mom guilts, struggles, and lack of time! :)

As an over-worked, over-stressed but very appreciative mother of two, I can relate to and appreciate the goals of this site. Through out my professional career as a retail buyer and merchandise manager I was often forced to travel multiple weeks in a month and work long hours on week days and weekends. These professional obligations separated me from my family and created a home life that I could no longer accept.
So, a few months ago, I walked into my boss’ office and told him I was putting in my two weeks notice. I quit my full-time, 50+ hr. a week job and started my own e-commerce site (www.lillyjames.com) selling children’s clothing and accessories for moms. I have always had a love of fashion and my professional experience prepared me to take the plunge into small business ownership. I won’t say that this has been an easy transition. Like all start up businesses, I am working long hours and learning to be patient with the results, but now I make my own schedule. I work 5 days a week from home and I am finding that you don’t have to choose between being a mother and having a career. I am excited and proud to own my own business, but I am more excited to be able to spend the time with my family that I was missing in my previous line of work. There are plenty of days that I want to pull my hair out and feel totally overwhelmed, but at the end of those days I am proud to be a full-time mom and small business owner.
I look forward to hearing and sharing the individual stories of the moms on this site and hope all of you will visit my site and give me your feedback.

I look forward to meeting you all.
Lindsey

Work life balance can be just as tricky working from home. Sticking to a calendar and blocking off time for my kids helps me get through the day without feeling stressed out about their needs.

I love your site! The Maggie Brown dress is absolutely darling! Good luck with everything!! Way to Make It Work!
