Taking Trixie on a Road Trip

by Camille on October 7, 2010

With my daily commute of 60 miles to work, the last thing I want to do on a weekend is get back in that car! However, with the Traverse, there are so many luxuries offered that make the drive so comfortable, that we decided to take it up north to visit my grandparents (and great-grandparents to my girls). They live in Ogden, so from Utah County to Weber County, it’s more than an hour drive each way. Not a problem for us travelers.

First of all, each of the girls had plenty of room on either sides of their seats for a box of “activities” on the road. Each seat has easy access to 2 (two) cup holders within their reach. Also within their reach are the temperature controls for the rear part of the car, which is separate from the driver’s and passenger’s controls. And, of course, each seat is equipped with a DVD monitor directly in front of their eyes, ready to show their choice of movie (individual or shared), to be listened through wireless headphones. And finally, with their “mee-mee’s” (comfortable blankets for napping) in hand, we were set!

For the driver, from my cockpit, my comfort level was defined by my own temperature controls (separate from passenger’s), heated/air-conditioned seats, and 30 pre-set Sirius XM radio stations (including Laugh USA, 90’s on 9, and Puerto Rico’s “Caliente”). For the drivers that like to document and compare the road trips, the Traverse offers features like a timer, 2 trip odometers, range of miles left in the gas tank, avg miles per gallon of gas used, and level of fuel economy used (to name a few).

And I could rest easy about our safety since the Traverse is equipped with multiple front and side air bags, a digital reading of the PSI of each tire, car seat anchors in all seats, and of course access to OnStar for emergency or roadside assistance.

So, with that peace of mind, we were set! A must for the road trip is a collection of our favorite music by Mindy Gledhill (musical permission obtained by Mindy herself), to which we sing at the top of our lungs, unless we see the red light of a live camera!

A road trip in Trixie must be a dream…especially for C8.

I’m just going to say it. The name Trixie makes me think of a stripper. But… I do love the car. Actually thinking seriously about buying one.

Looks like you’ve done some fun stuff with Trixie. I’m still working on Connie.

I’m OK with Trixie sounding like a stripper.
It sorta works for you.
