Missing In Action

by Camille on August 15, 2010

These past two weeks have been some crazycats days and when that happens, the blog takes the back burner.  So, for the millions of you who were going through withdrawals during my absence, breathe a sigh of relief – I’m back! :)

Aside from the fact that work has been rather chaotic, and attributed to premature aging and gray hairs, pleasant things have happened as well:

The girls both started and completed a course of survival skills in the swimming pool, at their respective levels, mostly to avert any future crises like the one earlier this summer.  C8 learned (and loved) how to have her face in the water, float on her back, and get her mom’s attention.   Ad learned how to tread water, swim from point A to B, and to dive.  Did I emphasize that enough?  to D-I-V-E!  Is it normal that 5 year olds are learning how to dive into the pool?  (asked the woman who has never, or ever will enter a pool head first.)  As far as swimming goes for me, I know how to tread water, as long as I’m wearing a life jacket!

We’ve been preparing for Kindergarten, which included a physical and immunizations.  I’ll be honest, I definitely prefer being in attendance for these immunizations rather than those of when they were newborns.  There is much less crying – on their part, and mine.

And the bulk of the past couple of weeks, was preparing for, and anticipating the wedding of “Uncle Jordan” to Chelsey, who is a gosh dang kid magnet!

The kids are all enamored with her and wanted to do something special for the occasion so they decided to prepare a performance of their favorite song: “California” by Mindy Gledhill and dedicate it to the lovebirds.  It’s a sort of love song so it’s appropriate, right?

This is the initial rehearsal, before much thought was put into choreography and before all the lyrics were learned.

Then after a week of continuous repeat of the song, and improvisational dance moves, the time came for the final performance, which proved to be a little more timid than the rehearsals, but isn’t that always the way it goes?

P.S. See those darling, matching dresses? My mom whipped out the ol’ sewing skillz to put those together!

The rest of the celebration was a whirlwind of hugs and kisses, staring into the sun for pictures, wiping chocolate onto the white tablecloths, constantly going back to the refreshment table, and basically making our presence known.  We always like for the new in-laws to know exacy what kind of a family their daughter is getting herself into.

And now that we’ve come to this point in life, next on the agenda is anticipating and preparing for the first day of Kindergarten!

What have you been up to?

I might have complaining about my “busy” week… because aside from sending the kids off to school (finally) I’ve been able to take it easy…

next week though – you might have some competition – something every night of the week and most mornings… not to mention getting the house ready for company and hopefully a new eye exam because I busted my glasses and somedays I just can’t handle contacts!

Love the wedding photos (and the bride’s pink tennis shoes–awesome!). And you gotta love learning swimming skills (you know I can relate on that one). Glad to have you back online!

LOVE the pink wedding shoes!

And I love, love, love the performance! I adore Caitlyn’s hand on hip and foot tapping move. So cute. I’m going to show this to Lydia when she wakes up. She’ll love it.

Wow! I haven’t been up to anything.
I’m too tired to read about your last few weeks! I’ve gotta go take a nap!

Some seriously cute kids you got! I love the talents. I think Mindy better be watching out.
