“So what do you do?” How cool would it be to answer that with “I’m a musician and am just days away from the release of a new album”! Mindy Gledhill gets to make that response and should say it with pride. An indie singer/songwriter, her style is smooth and upbeat. She’ll have you dancing and clapping with one song, and crying on the next. Personally, I’m excited for the release of her new CD ever since the Casual Blogging Conference, where she performed two of my favorite songs.
And on August 2nd, Mindy is holding a CD Release concert in Provo, UT, where she will perform live and have her new album “Anchor” available for purchase before its release date! She has been a busy woman so I especially appreciate her taking time to share how she ”Makes it Work”!
Your name and hometown:
Mindy Gledhill (grew up in Eureka, CA and Madrid, Spain. Now I live in Provo, UT).
Blog(s) / Website (s):

How many kids?:
I have 2 bumbling little boys.
Besides being a mother, what else consumes your time?:
Writing, recording and performing music! I also love interior design, junking, holistic medicine and food and spending time with my siblings.
What is the biggest challenge you’re faced with right now?
Probably the same challenge that most women who read this blog are faced with: balancing my family and my work.
With so much demanded of you, how do you “Make it Work”?:
Well, I’ll tell you a secret: I can’t always make it work. Sometimes, my life feels like a big mess. But when it does, I look at every area of my life and ask myself, What can I possibly do to simplify here? It might mean going to Dream Dinners and making a month’s worth of frozen dinners. It may mean that I dejunk the house and fill up the Good Will box I always keep by the back door. Sometimes, it just means saying “NO” to well-intentioned people who call and ask something of me. Simplifying usually grants me more of the one thing I never seem to have enough of: TIME.
If you had a full day to yourself, free of daily responsibilities, what would you spend it doing? Where?
Easy. I would forage through all the second-hand stores in rural Utah with my mom by my side. We love going junking together!
What would be your advice to other mothers trying to “Make It Work”?
Relax. Let your kids play in that mud hole out back or pile up those mattresses and bounce all over them. Let your house be messy if it means that kids are having fun and growing and learning. Make clean up time a game and crank the music while you’re at it. If kids complain, keep a positive tone in your voice while sticking to your guns about it. One day, when the house is empty, you’ll miss those muddy little footprints on the kitchen floor.
