“When all the world is spinning ’round
Like a red balloon way up in the clouds
And my feet will not stay on the ground
You anchor me back down”
The lyrics to the album title song of Mindy Gledhill’s “Anchor” CD are inspirational alone. But, accompany them with the music, and suddenly you’re floating away by the soothing, breathy, Enya-like lullaby, not wanting to come down. Then the next track starts and you find yourself spinning and twirling “like a circus girl”.
The release date of this album is August 4th, but we received our copy in the mail yesterday, courtesy of Mindy Gledhill, for reviewing purposes. Basically put: the girls and I can not put this album down! They request it while in the car, they played it for their cousins while visiting, and we’re listening to it now while I type this, Ad singing along with the words that she has memorized. I even sang one of the songs to C8 last night while rocking her to sleep. Of course, because my voice sounds more like scratching fingernails on a chalkboard, C8’s lullaby experiences aren’t close to what Mindy’s boys get to fall asleep to at night!
Track 5 will be a familiar one to those of you who have seen the Mormon Message about Stephanie Nielson’s “My New Life”. Mindy wrote “It’s All About Your Heart” for NieNie and, knowing the story while listening to these inspiring lyrics gives this song a deep meaning. It’s a tearjerker for keep some tissues at arms length.
If I had to choose a favorite, I don’t think I could. I honestly have fallen in love with all the songs on this album! Each one has a different message for each of the roles in your life. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: this album is ear candy for the lover, dancer and mother/parent in you. But, truth be told, I am partial to the bonus track “Mi Ancla” (the spanish verson of “Anchor”). And yes, it may be because of the memories the spanish language provides for me!
But here’s the best part!
There are 3 ways you can listen to this album:
1) Visit Mindy’s blogfor a preview of the album and actually listen to the songs!
2) The CD is available for purchase August 4th.
3) Go see Mindy LIVE in concert on August 2nd in Provo, UT!
