With May being the National Bike Month, and you celebrating by pulling your bike out from winter hibernation, you’ll have plenty of time to train for your summer bike race: the Tour de Donut!
Last year, as I was perusing the Sunday newspaper (I’m so old school), I was distracted by a man in full biking gear, helmet spandex and all. But it wasn’t the gear that caught my eye. It was the fistful of donuts he was scarfing down.
Hmmm… I pondered. The photo was quite the oxymoron, but I liked it! Two of my favorite past times affectionately found in one location. I simply HAD to look into it. And that I did.
First, I continued to read about the review, then I went online to the website to read more about this new-found activity. I learned it was the Tour de Donut, a spoof of the Tour de France created by cycling enthusiasts in 1989 and brought locally by the Rotary Club of American Fork as a unique fundraising opportunity.
And finally, after my research, I voiced my disgust for having learned after the fact about this unique and self-indulging one-of-a-kind opportunity to exercise and eat donuts simultaneously.
Rod Martin, Committee Chairman for the race, heard my cries and made sure I wouldn’t miss this year’s event by supplying me with regularly updated information. So, I’m *paying it forward* and sharing the information with you so you don’t find yourself soaking the Sunday’s newspaper with your tears the day after.
Read more about it here and here! What a great way to get the family together for some fun and exercising (I promise you’ll just burn off the calories of the donut anyway. Besides, it’s all for a good cause!)
You can register now for the race which will take place July 17th in American Fork, UT. They will accept all entrees: individual, road bikes, mountain bikes, recumbent bikes, tandem bicycles, and families!

I am totally in the second shot.
It’s my arm reaching out to the guy (my husband) in the Orem High jersey.
You should totally do the race. It was such a cool event. I’m thinking about doing it too…
