Shirley J Food Products * Giveaway

by Camille on May 3, 2010

It’s no secret to most.  I’m a working mom.

I work 8 hrs a day, 5 days a week, with a 40 minute commute - each way.

So, by the time I pick up my girls from daycare and come home after a long day, I don’t want to be spending the rest of my evening in the kitchen.  Anything convenient, flavorful, and semi-healthy (at least) has two thumbs up from me.  Thank you Shirley J!

Shirley J is a local company, based in Orem, UT that has been in business for over 30 years!  Their products are famous for their versatility and are still nutritionally advanced while still retaining flavor, and are reasonably priced!  I was introduced to Shirley J a few months ago when I won a couple of their itemsfrom another blogger’s giveaway.  I later became more familiarized with the company and more of the products through a review we conducted with the Sassies.

It wasn’t until I started using the products myself that I realized how convenient they really were.  And the varieties of food options I could create with them were increasing.

The Shirley J seasonings can be used in many dishes.  Our favorite is the Pizza & Pasta seasoning.  Add a Tbsp to a jar of tomato sauce to create an amazing spaghetti sauce!  Add it to a can of diced tomatoes, heat, and it becomes a marinara sauce perfect to serve with breadsticks for an appetizer.  I’ve mixed it in with Alfredo sauce as an Italian seasoning.  And even sprinkled it over my cheese melt sandwiches.  We love the flavor that’s packed into this bottle of seasonings!

BBQ Sauce powder.  Just add water!  Really!  Instantly, the aroma of a smoky, outdoor barbecue fills your kitchen.  Use as a marinade on your choice of meat. Slow cook chicken or pork shoulder to create tender, juicy, flavorful pieces of meat that pull apart easily and melt in your mouth.  Or, baste your meat with it as you grill on the BBQ to end up with a gorgeous glaze that impresses your taste buds.

The Universal Sauce is their signature product.    It’s a powder that serves as a basic sauce mix for many meals: soups, sauces, gravies, etc.

The girls and I love making alfredo sauce with it.  Mix 3 parts water to 1 part Universal Sauce powder.  Bring to a slow boil and instantaneously, you have a creamy sauce.  Spruce it up with 1 Tbsp Pizza & Pasta Seasoning, and about 1/4 cup shredded Parmesan cheese, mix altogether, then serve with your favorite cooked pasta.  (Bowties are the preference in our home).

Check out their website for a complete listing of all products, as well as recipes, and instructional videos!

And Shirley J has given a lucky MIWM reader the chance to try these products themselves:
