Moms Who Make It Work * Quinn Curtis

by Camille on May 11, 2010

Quinn is the creator of my blog’s new look! Isn’t it amazing? She’s a creative wizard. I love the bright colors, and the symbolism of the photos and font! (More to come on that) Just in the couple of weeks we spent communicating back and forth during the designing process, and knowing how much time she was spending on different mocks, I gained just a glimmer of perspective into her busy life! I asked Quinn to allow us even more perspective by providing the information below. Quinn is a Sassy friend of mine and is just as kind, patient, and loving as she comes across in this feature!  Thanks Quinn!

Blog(s) / Website (s):

Kids 3 kids (+ one on the way); Tate (Tate-o bug) 4, Claire (Claire-a-belle -> “belle” for short) 3, Norah (Mimi) 2

Besides being a mother, what else consumes your time? : I’m a professional food photographer, taking food pictures for all sorts of clients including magazines, chefs, restaurants and other food professionals.  I’m also the Creative Director for SassyScoops.com and a blogger.

What is the biggest challenge you’re faced with right now?  Finding peace and contentment amidst the everyday monotony and/or chaos.  I want to be a happy, fulfilled mother for my children and I know that really doesn’t have anything to do with what’s going on outside of me, but more on if I’m connected to the Divine internally.

With so much demanded of you, how do you “Make it Work”?  Strict working hours – it’s rare that I spend hours outside of noon-4pm (naptime) working, unless I’m on a photo shoot outside those hours.  Also, I’ve worked with my kids a lot to be secure enough to know that when I leave to work, I will come “right back.”  Now they always have a blast when I’m not able to be home (generally being watched by their grandma).

If you had a full day to yourself, free of daily responsibilities, what would you spend it doing?  Where?  I’m craving a family vacation so badly right now.  In my dreams I fantasize about taking our kids on a Disney Caribbean Cruise… heavenly!  However, the other fantasy is running away somewhere fun with just my husband since we rarely get quiet time alone together.

What would be your advice to other mothers trying to “Make It Work”?  Remembering your top priority (your kids) will help navigate all other areas of your life.  When things get busy and crazy with my work, I make an extra effort to make sure my kids have a good chunk of my time where I’m only focused on being with them.  This makes it easier to do my work since they don’t feel they’re competing for my attention.

That was so cute!
I love her cute smile.
Great thoughts and ideas.
Wish I would have found your website and hers years ago when I was up to my neck in the trenches. I could have used your advice.
