For the past 13 years, I’ve worked for the same company. Throughout the course of my employment my roles have ranged anywhere from Employment Supervisor and Recruiter to Account Manager.
Basically, I find jobs for people, and people for jobs.
At times it can be mundane, but for the most part, very rewarding! What is more rewarding than watching a smile spread over the face of someone, who has been in desperation of an income, land a full-time job?
And over the years, I’ve seen appreciation from my employees demonstrated in many forms:
* Thank you notes/cards
* cookies/brownies
* tamales/empanadas
* Queen size Control Top pantyhose (bless your heart, Rodolfo)
But yesterday’s visit tops them all.
A former employee of ours stopped in the office and said, “You guys are probably too busy to realize the good you do.”
And she held out a $100 bill.
We explained that we couldn’t accept monetary gifts (bring it back in the form of food!), yet she insisted we take it and divide it between the three of us in the office.
And with that, she left.
We were speechless.
We looked at each other and joked about how elegant a lunch break could be for us; or for a much needed manicure or massage after an excruciating day of typing and sitting at our desks!
We ended up donating it to the Red Cross for the Haiti Relief Efforts. I think they could use it much more than we could…

You’re so good!!!! I would be out the door spending the money on Cafe Rio and a movie. Singing: “I deserve this, I deserve this.” Kudos to your for thinking of others.

What a nice gift to give you guys! And a totally kind thing to do with it. I have enjoyed hearing so many stories of people giving to help the people in Haiti. I hope people continue to be able to help since the need still isn’t close to being met.

Great story and so nice of her to show appreciation and you for donating the money to Haiti. BTW, do you still have the queen size control top panty hose? just wondering.

Thanks for your comments everyone!
I’m sure $100 is hardly enough to provide what Haiti needs, but every little bit helps – I’m sure.
And no, I no longer have the pantyhose. I stretched them out too much to stay on!

What a compliment! And you are so sweet to donate it. But let’s be real Camille, the Queen size never fit you. You are a skinny mini.
